TAKE RIGHT VITAMIN D

Today I am going to write shortly on the important vitamin D. If there is only one supplement you decide to use it could very well be vitamin D. It has such a broad action on our bodily functions. Vitamin D is involved in multiple repair and maintenance functions, it regulates your immune system, cuts your risk of several cancers, helps prevent stroke, autoimmune disorders, heart disease and diabetes just to name a few. Vitamin D is very effective also against colds and influenza.

If you decide to take vitamin D you should have a look at that it is in the D3 form and not D2. D3 form raises vitamin D blood levels much more than D2. Most adults require about 5,000 IU of vitamin D daily for optimal health. This applys to pregnant women too. You can also count your daily need: 35 IU's of vitamin D per pound of body weight. Usually softgel capsules where vitamin D is dissolved in oil are better than tablets. It is more beneficial to take vitamin D daily than larger amount once a week.

You should test your blood level of vitamin D about four weeks after starting oral vitamin D. The optimal value of vitamin D that you're looking for is currently 50-70 ng/ml. To treat cancer or heart disease 70 -100 ng/ml is recommended.

You can find good D-vitamins on iHerb.com. By inserting code HUH943 on the order form as a coupon code you will get 5 - 10 dollars off your first purchase.

HUMAN FOODS THAT ARE HARMFUL FOR PETS

Chocolate is toxic for pets as many people know but there are other common human foods also that can be harmful to pets even in small amounts.

In chocolate it is theobromine and caffeine that can cause hyperactivity, increased heart rate, tremors, and potentially death. The more bitter the chocolate, the more toxic it is for pets. Dark chocolate is worst.

Xylitol can cause life-threatening hypoglycemia and liver damage in dogs.

Grapes and raisins can sometimes cause kidney failure even in very low amounts.

Rising bread dough can rise in pet´s stomach, doubling or tripling in size thus leading to impaction. The dough can also produce ethanol, which causes stumbling and pets to become disoriented, lethargic and depressed.

Macadamia nuts may cause weakness, depression, vomiting, ataxia, tremors, and hyperthermia.

Onions, leeks and chives can cause damage to red blood cells and result in anemia in both dogs and cats. Garlic is not toxic, it is actuallly healthy for pets in small amounts

Salt and sugar in excess are harmful for pets. Normally pets throw away self when having eaten too much salt.

Apple seeds, cherry pits, peach pits, pear pips, plums pits, and apricot pits contain cyanide, which is poisonous.

Cooked bones can splinter and tear a dog`s internal organs.

Potato peels are harmful for dogs as well as green potatoes.

Tomatoes, avocado, ham and bacon should not be given to dogs.

Carbohydrates (corn, wheat, rice, soy, millet and even potato) are pro-inflammatory foods. They promote inflammation. Grains should not be given in large amounts.

I hope this was helpful. You can find healthy supplements for pets at affordable prices at iHerb.com. By inserting code HUH943 on the order form as a coupon code you will get 5 - 10 dollars off your first purchase.

ASTAXANTHIN

A little while ago I came across astaxanthin for the first time. I was looking for Doctor's BEST Real Krill product which has some astaxanthin in it and during the same week I read about astaxanthin in a health magasine.

Astaxanthin seems to be very effective antioxidant. It protects our cells, organs and body tissues effeciently from oxidative damage. Astaxanthin could be beneficial especially to athletes. In a Swedish study athletes who took 4 mg astaxanthin daily had 62 % more power and endurance.

Interestingly astaxanthin which is a carotenoid helps protect your skin from the sun thus reducing the signs of aging. When you consume astaxanthin you create internal sunscreen for yourself. For this purpose 4 mg daily for three weeks have been shown results in resent studies.

Astaxanthin offers great benefits as an internal beauty supplement. It can improve fine lines, increases skin tone and elasticity, smooths surface and moisturises skin as well as reduces under-eye puffiness. So it improves overall skin appearance. Very interesting.

You can get astaxanthin from a microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis which produces it or from the sea creatures as salmon and krill. Make sure the astaxanthin you take is natural and not synthetic. There have been no adverse reactions in people using astaxanthin.

You can order astaxanthin from iHerb.com. By inserting code HUH943 in the order form you will get 5 - 10 dollars off from your first order.
