WHAT HAPPENS WHEN TAKING DIM

Laura wanted to try DIM di-indolylmethane because she was fed up with her PMS Premenstrual Syndrome. Every month she suffered from mood swings and breast tenderness. Furthermore she wanted to get rid of a vicious cycle of weight gain.

Laura had heard that DIM promotes healthy oestrogen metabolism both in men and women. DIM increases the metabolism of estrone, the most common form of estrogen, into the healthy estrone-2 form. Laura knows that eating lots of cabbage, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables she would also get di-indolylmethane which would then convert estrone to this protective form of estrogen estrone-2. However cooking the vegetables would diminish the DIM and she is not very eager to eating at least 2 pounds almost 1 kilo of these vegetables every day.

Laura decided to try a DIM supplement. She takes Nature's Way DIM-Plus Capsules 2 capsules daily with food. Laura had read that co-administrating DIM with vegetable oils or other lipophilic compounds, such as phosphatidylcholine will increase the bioavailability of DIM upon oral administration. Nature's Way DIM-Plus has a patented enhanced absorption and it includes phosphatidylcholine. The product has also spinach powder, cabbage powder and concentrated broccoli powder in it to provide enhanced phytonutrients.

Laura's auntie Margarita is also interested in starting to use a DIM supplement. She had read in a magazine that common uses of DIM alongside weight loss and relief of premenstrual syndrome are for cancer prevention like prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer and colon cancer. Margarita's friend Jackie has used DIM already 5 years and has got great help from DIM for menopausal hot flashes and for stiffness caused by fibromyalgia.

Margarita is worried about the lack of scientific support for using DIM. Very little is known about the safety of using di-indolylmethane supplements in the long term. Margarita should consult her doctor before making a decision to use DIM. She does not know if she can use a DIM supplement with her medicines.

DIM appears to alter liver function. An increased amount of estrogen becomes metabolized into inactive forms. Taking DIM along with medications that are changed by the liver can decrease the effectiveness of some medications.

Margarita found in Google that somebody had got a rash all over her body and eyes swollen and puffy lids when taking DIM. On Nature's Way DIM-Plus Capsules product description, that Laura uses, it is said that a harmless but noticeable change in urine color may occur during usage.

DIM is said to be a natural immune booster. DIM is a natural substance produced when body breaks down indole-3-carbinol. This plant substance is found in cruciferous, Brassica vegetables like red cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. DIM removes the bad estrogen that we are getting from our environment and food. For example plastic drink bottles and containers give off bad xenoestrogen.

DIM increases our good estrogen and reduces bad. DIM appears to be an estrogen regulatory compound. It possesses both pro-estrogenic and anti-estrogenic mechanisms of action. DIM should not be used when pregnant or breast feeding.

Sounds interesting. Have you used DIM? If so what have you noticed? Or was this all DIM thing new to you? Please leave some comments.
